LNG

What is the difference between liquefied natural gas (LNG) and piped natural gas?
They are both natural gas. In pipelines, natural gas is transported directly from the gas fields in gaseous state at greater or lesser pressure, for large quantities to be carried over long distances. When originating from other continents and shipped, it is liquefied at -160 °C to be easily stored. Upon destination and unloading, LNG is then either regasified to be injected into the gas pipe system, or loaded onto trucks in liquid form for delivery to our customers.

Why is liquefied natural gas (LNG) only distributed since 2012 ?
AXÈGAZ was the first company to decide to distribute LNG in 2012 and to take the steps required to obtain the license from the ministry.

Where does liquefied natural gas (LNG) come from?
Liquefied natural gas is delivered by ship to LNG terminals. It comes from a variety of different fields in the Arabian Gulf, Africa, Central America, ...

What is the calorific value of liquefied natural gas (LNG), compared to LPG or heating oil?
The gross calorific value (GCV) of LNG is 5% higher than LPG and 20% higher than fuel oil.

What is the expected LNG consumption over the next 20 years in Europe ?
LNG is expected to replace gasoil, LPG, heating oil and fuel oil. It is on the right track to becoming a significant part of the energy mix in Europe with an expected consumption of dozens of Terawatt hours (TWh) per year.

Can we be sure of liquefied natural gas (LNG) reserves and resources ?
The world’s proven natural gas reserves total hundreds of years. Besides the Middle East, Asia and Africa will be increasing their output, which will be shipped to Europe’s methane centers.

Is liquefied natural gas (LNG) more hazardous than piped gas ?
No, it is the same product in gaseous phase (customer use). In liquid phase, LNG is simply cooled down to -160 °C at ambient pressure

How is the price of liquefied natural gas (LNG) set ?
The price of LNG is freely set depending on the markets and the trading hubs with freely searchable indexes (Brent, ZTP hub, PEG, TTF).

Is the price of liquefied natural gas (LNG) tied to the price of oil ?
Like any energy, it is influenced by changes in the price of oil, but its variability is low, contrary to oil products such as LPG and fuel oil.
